Facility Documents
At fixed facilities—such as warehouses, chemical storage facilities, or manufacturing plants—hazardous materials are documented in three ways.
- Containers are placarded, labeled, and/or marked.
- A list of hazardous materials on site is posted in a prominent place on site.
- The SDS (or MSDS) for each hazardous material must be prominently displayed in the same workspace as the material, and may be kept in the facility's computer system. Ask 24-hour staff for the SDSs for substances of concern—or look for a binder containing SDSs in a central location, a clipboard on the wall, or other reasonable locations.
The facility may also have prepared a chemical emergency plan.
