Dithiocarbamate salts can react with chloroformates (including phosgene and ethyl chloroformate) at ambient temperatures, forming isothiocyanates, alcohols, and the toxic, flammable gas carbonyl sulfide (Thorn, G.D., R.A. Ludwig. 1962. Dithiocarbamates and Related Compounds. Amsterdam: Elsevier. pp. 101, 104).
