Solutions of molybdenum hexacarbonyl in diethylether can explode after standing in air for an extended period. Chromium hexacarbonyl in diethylether may behave the same way (Owen, B. B. et al, Inorg. Synth. 1950, 3, 158).
Molybdenum hexacarbonyl can remove the sulfur atom from the aromatic heterocyclic thioether dibenzothiophene, producing biphenyl (H. Alper, Pure Appl. Chem. 52 (1980) 607).
