Hazard Predictions
- Polymerization hazard: Polymerization reaction may become intense and may cause pressurization
Isocyanates react readily with acids at room temperature (Richter, Reinhard H., Ralph D. Priester Jr. 2000. Isocyanates, Organic. In Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (Online)). This reaction may result in polymerization of the isocyanate in some cases (Personal communication with chemical industry experts). This polymerization may cause rapid pressurization. Caution should be used before proceeding. Further research of comparable examples in the literature or very small scale, carefully controlled experiments may be needed to fully assess compatibility.
