Reactions of isocyanates, including 1,6-diisocyanatohexane, with alcohols can be violent (National Fire Protection Association. 1975. Publication 491M. pp. 19.).
Polyhydric alcohols and polyisocyanates polymerize very readily due to the ease of addition reactions at the isocyanate group. Much heat can be evolved. Monohydric alcohols form carbamates with isocyanates with some evolution of heat (Rich, G. A., 1993, Dangerous Chemical Reactions, Gulf Publishing Co., Houston, TX, p. 255).
