No specific evidence was found for an interaction between thiols and neutral heavy metal atoms. However, there is a strong interaction between thiols and heavy metal ions:
Thiols bind tightly to heavy metal ions, including mercury, gold, lead, copper, zinc, and cobalt (Roy, K.-M. 2000. Thiols and Organic Sulfides. Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry. (Online)).
Addition of powdered copper to a 1:2 of H2S and oxygen causes the metal to become incandescent, igniting the explosive mixture (Merz, V. et.al., Berichte., 1880, 13, 722).
