The hydrolysis of oximes proceeds easily by heating in the presence of various inorganic acids, and the oximes decompose into the corresponding ketones or aldehydes, and hydroxylamines (Corsaro, A., Chiacchio, U., Pistarà , V. Synthesis 2001, No. 13, p. 1903-1931). Many nitro-organic compounds are weak acids due to the fact that the nitro group is electron withdrawing. The degree to which nitro-organics may induce hydrolysis may need to be tested.
