Summary
- Generates gas: Reaction liberates gaseous products and may cause pressurization
- Generates heat: Exothermic reaction at ambient temperatures (releases heat)
- Unstable when heated: Reaction products may be unstable above ambient temperatures
- Intense or explosive reaction: Reaction may be particularly intense, violent, or explosive

Explosions have been reported between diazonium salts and xanthates, sodium bisulfide, and sodium sulfide. Diazo ethers or similar compounds have been suspected to form in these cases (Quarterly Safety Summary of the British Chemical Industry Safety Council, Society of the Chemical Industry, London 40 (158): 17-18 (1969)).
