No evidence of an adverse reaction between these reactive groups was found in the case where no water is present. However, metal salts may be found in aqueous solution and the reaction between water and chlorosilanes can be vigorous, with the release of heat and HCl fumes. Many of the chlorosilanes react with water rapidly with half-lives ranging from seconds to minutes (Pohanish, Richard P. (2004).
