Hazard Predictions

Most organometallic compounds do not react with aromatic hydrocarbons. However, some highly reactive organometallic compounds can react.

The highly electron-deficient organometallic cation methylzirconocene, i.e. [(C5Me5)2ZrMe]+, can react with aromatic hydrocarbons to form metal-phenyl bonds, possibly with release of flammable hydrocarbons (if the initial compound had metal-alkyl bonds) (Janiak, C. 2002. Metallocene Catalysts. Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. (Online)).
