Lithium borohydride, lithium aluminum hydride, and some other complex hydrides can reduce anhydrides in a similar reaction to that of complex hydrides with acid halides. The likely products of this reaction are aldehydes, which may be volatile, flammable, and toxic, and carboxylates (Rittmeyer, P., U. Wietelmann. 2002. Hydrides. Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry. Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA. (Online); Eggeman, T. 2001. Hydrides. In Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (Online)).
