Hazard Predictions
- Intense or explosive reaction: Reaction may be particularly intense, violent, or explosive
Acetaldehyde reacts violently with isocyanates (Lewis, R.J., Sr. 1992. Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials, 8th Edition. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold. pp. 5).
There is much literature on the condensation reaction between isocyanates and aldehydes, however there is little to support that it will occur at room temperature without catalyst present. Most require strong bases or metallic catalysts and heat to initiate the reaction.
