Chlorosilanes are known to react exothermically with alcohols, with evolution of HCl gas and silyl ethers (Skinner, S.J. 1981. Loss Prevention 14:178-180; Butts, M., et al., 2002. Silicones. Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. (Online)). Thiols may react with chlorosilanes in a similar way.
Potential Gas Byproducts
- Hydrogen Chloride (HCl)
- Acid Fumes
