Exothermic reactions may occur between weak bases and chlorosilanes, with the formation of salts. However, the real reactive hazard is between the aqueous solution of the weak bases and chlorosilanes. The metal salts are often in aqueous solution and the reaction between water and chlorosilanes can be vigorous, with the release of heat and HCl fumes.
